Less Fuel in Your Travels
Make it a habit to consider these
Use a mode that's better for the environment: in general, from best to worst:
No fuel: walk, bike, don't go
Public transportation: commuter rail, bus
Shared ride: carpool, shuttle
Electric (EV) - fully charged by a battery
PHEV (Plug-in hybrid electic vehicle) - charge the battery, then use gas when needed
Hybrid - uses gas but also stores electric power generated by the car driving
Diesel - less polluting and more efficient than gasoline
Gas - traditional combustible engine
Air Travel - did you know a plane can emit up to 10x more greenhouse gases than a train? A single plane trip may produce 5%+ of the greenhouse gases of all your other activities throughout the year.
Combine trips or just take fewer trips
Choose local options for shopping and events to reduce effects of your transportation and theirs
Walk or ride a bike (or board or scooter) instead
Share a ride to school, work, activities, and events, and share errands with others - there is a huge cost to the environment when everyone takes their own car
Drive more efficiently: lower speeds, inflate tires properly, brake less
